Superficial Biography.

There is no indepth understanding of how Ortega or Zara works. The authors labours to provide us with intimate trivia about the man and focuses little on important aspects of the Inditex business. It was a waste of my money and I would not recommend this book.

Zara is the world’s most successful fashion retailer and Amancio Ortega has done an awesome job of building one of the strongest brands in the world. What I appreciated most about the book is Ortega’s focus on producing beautifully designed clothes at affordable rates. I also found it interesting that he has dominated the world in fashion retail without having to learn to speak English or move his headquarters to any of the world’s fashion capitals.

his life story is amazing and most interesting

Very interesting rendition of the life of Joseph Smith. Before I continue, my review may be more helpful if you are aware that I am active LDS (Mormon). However, I view myself as a very independent thinker. First off, let me say that no matter your view of Joseph Smith, his life story is amazing and most interesting. And I think Fawn Brodie has done an excellent job of presentment overall. I would have given it five stars, except there were some instances where I felt she made assertions without adequate explanation and some other interesting facets that I wish she would have explored in more depth. But what is written gives a person a good basis of knowledge and makes it easy to do further study if you would be so inclined.
First off, when Fawn Brodie wrote this book, she was skewered by LDS scholars. However, at the time the LDS church would not acknowledge that Joseph Smith had more than one wife either; recently the church has acknowledged he had multiple wives. This book is not just about polygamy, it is a part of the story. But I mention this first, because it shows clearly what she wrote and the LDS church denied at the time, has now been acknowledged by the LDS church. And I suspect other of her assertions will also prove out. She included original sources in some cases that the LDS church will refute and claims she does not use sources that may be contrary to 'her view'. However, I can tell you from experience, that the LDS church really puts the 'white wash' on the history they present and deny many sources contrary to what they want to present. I personally feel Fawn Brodie was pretty fair and she did highlight when she felt a source could be suspect. She pointed out 'revelations' by Joseph Smith that did not hit the mark and were changed, removed, or not added to the Doctrine & Covenants. She used much of the LDS 'Church History' also. And it was interesting when she could show proof of statements that were either not complete in the Church History or changed - as she found the original statement. His teachings on religious ideas are amazing, but then we see how he would smear those who could not accept or disagree with him (William Law and his wife are a fine example of this - they were full of integrity). The so called 'Lies' printed in the Nauvoo Expositor, we now know were not falsehoods.
I could write much more, but the point I am trying to make in the review is that, (1) this book is very interesting and any way you cut it, Joseph Smith was an amazing man; (2) I feel it is always better to present as complete a history as possible of an individual (it lends to a truer picture), and this book certainly gives it a good go; and (3) In this book, it shows in many ways the contradictions within Joseph Smith and what appear to many 'excesses' on his part. One question, could one actually be a "Prophet of God" with the excesses he displayed in his life?

Had to get this for a class and I am glad. It wasn't a book that I would have checked out of the library but it was super good.
This is not a cowboy book but you like western literature, you need to get and read this one.

About the Author
Karen V. Root is Associate Professor and Graduate Coordinator in the Department of Biological Sciences at Bowling Green State University. Her primary research focus is the conservation of native biodiversity, including conservation planning and management. This research combines ecological field studies with the application of quantitative techniques such as G.I.S. and risk assessment to conservation issues across many scales. and excellent storytelling, and then other sections where it was ...

I had just finished reading "Ice" by Bridget Essex when I decided to pick this book up. After such high praise, I figured it was well worth the shot. I have to say in all honesty that I much preferred "Ice" to this book. For me, the characters seemed a little one dimensional, even despite the heavy description of their outward appearance. There were quite a few spelling and grammatical errors that I noticed, which usually isn't such a big deal as long as they don't exceed a certain level. By mid-point of the third novella (this is a collection of the first three novellas in the series), I was ready to put the book down and move on. I was left with the feeling that the entire book was based around several much smaller short stories because there were moments in the book of such vivid detail, and excellent storytelling, and then other sections where it was just lacking. I suppose I had just expected something better from this author whom I had just discovered.

wow, deciding to write this review now, was quite some time ago since i bought and tried reading it, hoping maybe someone could show me another way to look at it but i dropped this book quite quickly when the character turned stupid, i usually do that, i mean last love dead, love pops up clearly acting strange and well should be dead.. clearly not acting as a returning love interest but instead controlling and trying to interfere with things, and as you know was witnessed DEAD, but instead is accepted in, even if i remember some question but quickly dropped for no reason, all strange behavior brought up but quickly ignored or refused to be acted upon, refusing to ask the important questions or just you know speaking up.. i hate that, when characters stay silent or act like idiots to make the story go forward instead of being smart, saying what they think or feel and boom things move forward but i know lots of authors are unable to not make everything run in circles until the last few pages due to lack of abilities.

much too common that instead of main character saying "i love you" they stay silent and then for the next 1/3 of the book we are forced to watch how everything goes to s*** before finally they get their s*** together and just actually TALK to each other.

characters not saying something to make the story go forward without EXTREMELY good reasons made very clear to the reader is lazy writing done by someone who cant be bothered to write about a deepening of the relationship, but the other possible problems that building and maintaining said relationship.

Now, these things im not sure all apply to this book since its short and i dropped it at shortly after the beach incident when i saw that the author chose to make every IMO wrong choice of how to move the story forward, making main char not speak up for no reason, making main char ignore behaviors because stupid, everything to make the story move to where the author wants it, instead of where a smart person by the use of their voice could bring everything crashing down in a completely different direction due to not being stupid, SHES DEAD MAYBE SOMETHING STRANGE IS HAPPENING?! THERE IS MAGIC IN THE WORLD MAYBE ITS ONE OF YOUR ENEMIES PLOTS?!

meh.. this and i think another of your books quickly turned me away from reading anything further from you sadly, because otherwise, lesbian romance with paranormal worlds are my main genre well.. nearly only genre lately.

If someone has a recommendation for another of your books that doesn't make people stupid to make sure the story moves i would be happy to give that book a try :)

Good and interesting read

Good but left me hanging! No doubt, Bridget Essex is a talented writer. The description of the hotel, the vampires, and Rose's experiences are vivid and I feel I'm right there with Rose through her journey. This series of three books ends on a cliff hanger which is picked up in a 4th novella, "Eternal Dance." so now I need to continue with that one to find out what happens.

There are sprinkles of mystery here and there to keep us guessing and reading. I'm sure Essex will reveal all in time.

I did enjoy the read but it also gave me a wish list of sorts and leaves me with some questions mainly which are:

1) There is actually very little interaction between Rose and Kane. There's a lot of looking and being drawn to each other and it's obvious something greater than themselves are pulling them together but I wish we could see more substantial exchanges between the two.

2) Where the heck does Gwen go off to? She's not around much for being 1 of only 3 other employees in the place.

3) Please, no more "violently blue eyes"...give me other descriptions of Kane's eyes. lol

Despite my wishes, though, there are some wonderful moments in the books. For example, I loved this passage...completely gripped and jarred me:

"And for the first time in what seemed like forever...I felt something pricking inside of me, something growing and unfurling like a blossom opening in my heart. It was hope. It was at that moment that I saw the body in the water."

Loved that!

The novellas aren't perfect but definitely worth a read.

Amazing for Graduate school anatomy in Medical Sciences.

I used this book for graduate school gross anatomy. It was a quick read and covered main points that I was tested on. I purchased this book when I was overwhelmed with my assigned text book. About the Author
David Burch, PhD, FRIN, is the Director of Starpath School of Navigation, which after 26,000 classroom students since 1979 switched to all online training in 2008. He is the author of 13 books and hundreds of magazine articles. He received the Institute of Navigation's Superior Achievement Award for outstanding performance as a practicing navigator. He is Fellow of the US Institute of Navigation as well as a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Navigation in London. He has extensive ocean sailing experience covering much of the globe, and once held an elapsed time record for the Victoria to Maui Yacht Race that lasted for 16 years. On the academic side, he is a past Fulbright Scholar with a PHD in physics.

Outstanding Resource

David Burch is one of the world's most respected navigators. I trained with him in Seattle toward getting my USCG Master's license years ago, and was always impressed by his thoroughness and the manner in which he simplified complex information so that anyone with a basic education could comprehend. This book is an accompaniment to the Star Finder tool, so anyone who doesn't know what the Star Finder actually IS will naturally be lost. Those who do own or who wish to purchase a Star Finder would be wise to have this excellent resource in hand. Better yet, take one of David's celestial navigation courses (in the classroom or online.)

Much More Than Instructions. Plenty of Practical C-nav Knowledge

Fabulous guide to using the star finder, which is sorely needed since the included instructions are insufficient. BUT this book is even better because it also includes LOTS of practical knowledge offered by someone who clearly has first hand experience and is pleased to share what he has learned (probably the hard way.) Much of it applies even if you don't have a 2102D star finder and never expect to lay eyes on one.
I don't know why I waited so long to buy this book. I love it and you will too.
