About the Author
Sandor Lehoczky participated in the Math Olympiad Summer Program in 1989, and in 1990 earned the sole perfect AIME score and led the national first place team on the AHSME (now AMC 12). Richard Rusczyk is the founder of the Art of Problem Solving website. He was a national MATHCOUNTS participant in 1985, a three-time participant in the Math Olympiad Summer Program, a perfect AIME scorer in 1989, and a USA Mathematical Olympiad winner. He is author or co-author of 6 Art of Problem Solving textbooks. Lehoczky and Rusczyk were co-founders of the Mandelbrot Competition and are board members of the Art of Problem Solving Foundation.

Excellent preparation book for high-school math contests.

This is the first volume of a two-book series written by Math Olympiad veterans for high schoolers preparing for Math Olympiad and its prerequisites, e.g. AMC10, AMC12 and AIME. It fulfills its mission admirably. Each chapter explores a subject deeply and closes with exercise problems varying from straightforward to moderately tricky.
The solution book is sold separately. This is fine, but answer sheets should have been included in this problem book for readers who simply want to double-check their own answers.

Doing MathCounts? You NEED this

If your kid is (or if you are a kid) doing the MathCounts competition, you need to start here and know all this stuff. This is not the be all end all of your training, but you need to start here. Mastery of this book should put you ahead of 97-98% of the kids in local competitions. In short there are two types of kids in Math competitions: those that do AoPS and those that don't.

A must have one if you are serious about solving problems

I bought this solution manual along with the book for my middle-school kid who is studying math on the more advanced level than regular school stuff. The reason why it is a must have is that some of the problems in the problem book are hard and you might really don't know how to solve them. Overall, the solutions to the problems is clear. It would be super nice if authors can offer different solution paths to same problem so students can see how those different solutions are connected.
